Printing Service

Nuestros Servicios de Impresión usan IPP (Internet Printing Protocol).

Como IPP se basa en HTTP, el servicio de impresión puede ser utilizado en cualquier red DEI, incluyendo la red inalámbrica Eduroam.

Por favor, tenga en cuenta:

  • Si su cliente no aparece en las instrucciones de configuración a continuación, envíe un mensaje a helpdesk@dei.uc.pt.
  • Configurar la impresora de red como la impresora predeterminada puede causar un retraso al iniciar Microsoft Word si la impresora no se encuentra disponible.
  • Por defecto, todas las impresiones se realizan en escala de grises. Para imprimir a color, debe enviar un correo electrónico a helpdesk@dei.uc.pt con la aprobación previa de los directores del DEI.
  • Es obligatorio que la aplicación PCClient esté en ejecución antes de intentar imprimir.

Teachers, researchers and employees.
Access by students is subject to approval by the DEI Direction.

macOS

1. Download and install papercut
  • Download PaperCut Client for macOS (After decompress, drag the application into the application folder)
  • Start PCClient application, inserting your DEI network login and password when you attempt to print. You can adjust the timeout for the connection on the login prompt.

2. Configure PCClient to start automatically

  • Go to System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items
  • Add PCClient application to the list
3. Download and install printer drivers

4. Open "System Preferences - Print & Scanners".
Press the "Add" (+) button. This will open the "Printer Browser" window.

5. Press the right mouse button over the toolbar and select the "Customize Toolbar" option from the popup menu. Add the "Advanced" button to the toolbar.


For the "Type", choose "Internet Printing Protocol (http)".
For "Device", choose "Another Device".
The "URL" should be in the following format:

Specify the desired printer name, used only for local purposes

6. Inside Print Using choose "Select Software" option.

7. Here type "minolta" in search filter and select the driver of the desired model:

KONICA MINOLTA 554e PS for printer-hall-1

KONICA MINOLTA c300i PS for printer-hall-2

KONICA MINOLTA C258 PS for printer-cisuc

8. After add printer-hall-1, please select the following options:

Finisher: FS-534

Punch Unit: PK-520 (2/4-Hole)

Make sure the following options are selected: Hard Disk, Allow Public User and 1200dpi Rendering Op.

9. After add printer-hall-2, please select the following options:

Finisher: FS-533

Punch Unit: PK-519 (2/4-Hole)

Make sure the following options are selected: Storage, Allow Public User and Paper Settings for Each tray

10. After add printer-cisuc, please select the default driver options

11. Open PaperCut NG client software and follow the next instructions.
When installation is complete enter your DEI Network credentials

12. When you print a document a popup will appear on screen requesting your credentials. You can save your password to avoid having to enter it every time you print.

13. Configure PaperCut NG Client to automatically open upon start-up:

  • Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  • Select Users & Groups. (In macOS Ventura 13.1, select General instead)
  • Select your login account.
  • Click the Login Items tab.
  • Click the + button and browse and locate the PCClient application.

14. Configure a "Black & White" preset

For cost reduction, we advise you to create a "Black and White" preset that should be used whenever you want to print in this way, in color print machines.

To do this, when first printing, after selecting the printer, select the option "Quality" and then under "Select Color" choose "Gray Scale".

Then in the "Presets" option select "Save Current Settings ad Preset" and enter a name to define this setting.


Win 10

1. Download and install Papercut

2. Download the Driver

3. Execute the Universal Printer Driver (UPDSetup64.exe)

And select "Manual Setting"

4. For the printer-cisuc

Click in "Add to List"

Edit the Print Name to: printer-cisuc

Edit the Port Settings to: http://ipp.dei.uc.pt/printers/printer-cisuc

In Model select: Konica Minolta C258

In Printer Driver Name select: Konica Minolta Universal PS v3.9

Notice - Select the following check boxes: "Sided: Default" and "Gray Scale: Default"

5. For the printer-hall-1

Click in "Add to List"

Edit the Print Name to: printer-hall-1

Edit the Port Settings to: http://ipp.dei.uc.pt/printers/printer-hall-1

In Model select: Konica Minolta 554e

In Printer Driver Name select: Konica Minolta Universal PS v3.9

Notice - Select the following check boxes: "Sided: Default"

6. For the printer-hall-2

Click in "Add to List"


Edit the Print Name to: printer-hall-2


Edit the Port Settings to: http://ipp.dei.uc.pt/printers/printer-hall-2


In Model select: Konica Minolta C300i


In Printer Driver Name select: Konica Minolta Universal PS v3.9


Notice - Select the following check boxes: "Sided: Default" and "Gray Scale: Default"

7. Confirm and finish the installation.


Click in Install.

8. To configure the Finisher and Punch units of the printer-hall-1, it is necessary to access the printer properties.


Open Printers & Scanners, in the printer-hall-1, click in Manage and then printer properties.

Go to "Configure" tab and change the following options:


Finisher: select the FS-534


this option allows stapling

Go to "Configure" tab and change the following options:


Punch Unit: PK-520 (2/4-Hole)


this option allows to pierce the sheets

9. To configure the Finisher and Punch units of the printer-hall-2, it is necessary to access the printer properties.


Open Printers & Scanners, in the printer-hall-2, click in Manage and then printer properties.

Go to "Configure" tab and change the following options:


Finisher: FS-533


this option allows stapling

Go to "Configure" tab and change the following options:


Punch Unit: PK-519 (2/4-Hole)


this option allows to pierce the sheets

10. With the PC Client running, a pop-up will appear when printing. You will need to use your DEI Account: username and password.


Linux

1. Make sure you have Cups installed and running (tutorial for configuring Cups)

Open a browser and go to CUPS Configuration at: http://localhost:631

Click on "Administration" and "Add Printer".

2.1. Download this zip, extract it and execute with sudo ( $ sudo ./install.pl )

2.2. Continue with the installation? Select Yes

2.3. Select all filter files and press Ok

2.4.1. Select all PPD files and press Ok

2.4.2. Select all PPD files and press Ok

2.5. Press ok to finish the installation

3. Restart the Cups Service

sudo service cups restart

sudo service cups status

4.1. Access Cups: http://localhost:631/admin

In the Administration area, click the button "Add Printer"

4.2. Select "Internet Printing Protocol (http)".

4.3. The URL for the printer should be in the following format:

4.4. Specify the desired printer name

4.5. Provide the printer driver file, according to the URL that was entered in step 5:

  • printer-cisuc: KMbeuC759ux.ppd
  • printer-hall-1: KMbeu554eux.ppd
  • printer-hall-2: KMbeuC750iux.ppd

4.6.1. On the "Set Default Options for printer-cisuc", make sure the settings are the same as the following images:

  • Model: Konica Minolta C258

4.6.2. On the "Set Default Options for printer-hall-1", make sure the settings are the same as the following images:

  • Model: Konica Minolta 554e
  • Finisher: FS-534
  • Punch Unit: PK-520 (2/4-Hole)

4.6.3. On the "Set Default Options for printer-hall-2", make sure the settings are the same as the following images:

  • Model: Konica Minolta C300i
  • Finisher: FS-534
  • Punch Unit: PK-520 (2/4-Hole)

5. Download and install papercut

  • Download PaperCut Client for Linux
  • You just need to execute the file: pc-client-linux.sh
  • Note that you need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your Linux system.

6. With the PC Client running, a pop-up will appear when printing. You will need to use your DEI Account: username and password.

WebPrint

This mechanism allows for fast printing without any need for configuration on the client device. It is limited to PDF files and black and white prints.

It should be seen only as a backup mechanism

1. From one of the DEI networks, including the Eduroam Printing Service network, access https://webprint.dei.uc.pt

Enter your DEI username and password

2. Select "Submit a Job" option
3. Select the printer to be used to print the document
4. Select the number of copies to print
5. Upload the document to be printed and select "Upload and Complete"

Mobility

Run the Mobility Print installer on your device.

Connect the device to the DEI Printing Service network (DEI / DEI-5Ghz)

You'll be prompted to enter your DEI Account (email and password), and to select the printers you want to use.

When it’s time to print, just print like you normally do.
